How to configure Wishlist in Magento 2

Introduction

Considering the fact that most shoppers compare options on multiple online stores before they make a decision for purchase, having a Wishlist is extremely convenient for them as they will avoid the whole process of searching the products again.

In this tutorial, we will guide you on how to configure Wishlist in your Magento Online Store. Magento Wishlist will allow your registered customers to save their favorite products for future purchases. If Wishlist is enabled “Add to Wish List” link will be displayed on your store’s category and product pages.

Wishlist frontend

By clicking on this button your customers will be able to add their desired products to the Wishlist, share their Wishlist items via email or directly add the selected products in their shopping cart.

Getting Started

In order to configure the Wish List settings, please log in to your Magento Admin Dashboard and navigate through the left menu bar to Stores > Configuration.

Accessing the Configuration page

Once you access the “Configuration” page, please locate the “Wish List” section available under the “Customers” tab.

Accessing the Wishlist page

This is the page where you will be managing your Magento Wishlist. You will be able to enable or disable it and configure its settings.

Configuring the Wishlist

Now we will need you to expand the first “General Options” section.

You will notice that the “Wish List” is enabled by default in Magento. In case you need to disable it, please untick the “Use System Value” checkbox and select “No” from the “Enabled” dropdown menu.

General Options

The second “Show in Sidebar” setting determines whether “My Wish List” is displayed in the sidebar section while your customers are logged in their accounts and browsing your products.

Show in Sidebar example

This is an example of how this section will appear on your store’s frontend. In case you do not want “My Wish List” to be displayed in the sidebar, please make sure to select “No” from the dropdown menu.

Please expand the following “Share Options” section. The settings available here will allow you to configure your preferences for the Wishlist sharing functionality.

Share Options

The “Email Sender” setting determines the store contact which will appear as the sender of the message whenever your customers share their Wishlists. Please, select your desired store contact address from the dropdown menu. You can review your store’s email settings by going to Stores > Configuration > General > Store Email Addresses.

The “Email Template” setting will allow you to select the template used for the message sent whenever your customers share their Wishlists. Again, from the dropdown menu, you will be able to select the preferred template.

From “Max Emails Allowed to be Sent” you can set up a limit for the number of emails that can be sent at once. It is recommended to keep this value low in order to avoid possible server overload.

Email Text Lenght Limit” will allow you to set up a limit for the maximum characters allowed for the email message of Wishlist sharing.

Next, please expand the last “My Wish List Link” section. The “Display Wish List Summary” setting determines how the Wishlist items will be showcased in your customers’ dashboards. You can either select to show the number of items added in the list or the total item quantity.

Finally, please do not forget to click on the “Save Config” button in order to record the changes you have made. Once you successfully save the configuration, please make sure to flush Magento’s cache by going to System > Cache Management > Flush Magento Cache.

Well done! You have the Magento Wishlist successfully configured on your Online Store and your customers will be able to add their favorite products. Now all you need to do is to keep your fingers crossed and expect them to come back and purchase the saved products.
