The ability to search is an amazing utility to have. phpMyAdmin is no stranger to it, and it fully supports it. Using this robust tool, you may look for strings or integers within your database. This can be very useful in certain situations. For example, when you have changed the domain of your website, and there are still entries in your database redirecting or loading content from the old domain name. PhpMyAdmin has a wide variety of functionalities that can efficiently help you find these records and replace them if needed. In this tutorial, we will take you through the process of searching your database using phpMyAdmin.
Before you can access the PHPMyAdmin functionality, you need to log into your cPanel account with us. To do so, please check our tutorial on How to access the cPanel service.
Once logged in, please navigate to the “Database” section and click on the “phpMyAdmin” icon.
Clicking on the result redirects you to the “PHPMyAdmin” feature. In the left sidebar, you can see a list of all your databases.
Please select the database on which you want to perform the search.
After you have selected the database, please point your attention to the top side of the screen, where you can see the tab bar. There you can locate and access the “Search” tab.
After clicking on it, you are redirected to the "Search" page, which consists of a few sections.
The first text field is intended for the string you are looking for. Therefore, please type it into it.
You may also write numbers, regular expressions, or any entry which is inside your database.
Right beneath is the "Find" section, containing a few options you can choose. Let us go over them:
Please select the desired option by clicking on the corresponding radio button.
This section is located directly under the “Find” section. There is a content box inside, allowing you to select the database table within which you want to perform the search. Above the content box, there are two buttons - "Select all" and "Unselect all" allowing you to either select or unselect all the tables of your database, held in the content box.
If you want to choose an individual table, please click on it. You know that it is selected by the fact that it is highlighted.
Lastly, there is a text field below the content box where you can type in a specific column located inside the selected table above or the entire database.
When you have configured the search pattern, please click on the "Go" button located on the bottom right corner of the page.
This action presents a list of all the database tables you selected on the previous page. On the left side of this list, you can see the number of matches for every table.
That’s it! A handy method you can use to search for patterns inside your database using the phpMyAdmin tool!
